Gaah! I hate and love tilt-shift at the same time. Also, this is definetely one of the best tilt-shift videos i've ever seen!
i wanna know how they make them i dont think i would ever be able to though
Pretty awesome stuff. I've done stills in post edit because I can't afford a lens. It's not terribly difficult, just fine work. I'd be curious to know if they used a tilt-shift lens or just did massive post-edit.
I would assume they used a lens.
I'm guessing your right wyse. Same way they make the long hall way appear to get longer and longer in horror movies. But I believe the full effect is also being achieved with a clever manipulation of lighting. Mostly a glossy glow that makes everything appear somewhat surreal. Combined with time lapse, everything appears miniature, like a model train set.
Really a neat effect, tho some scene work better than others.
It has something to do with the depth of field. The camera is always really far away from the scene, yet there are multiple levels of focus (some stuff is clear and some stuff is blurry). If it was a normal camera everything in the scene that far away would be at the same level of focus (blurry or clear).
Ayup, they use a perspective control lens. It's called tilt-shift because the lens actually tilts this way or that, perpendicular to the camera sensor.
To complete the effect, turn up the color saturation a bit and speed up the playback. Voila, instant toy train village. Very cool.
