Drunken football player Jonathan Legear crashed into gas station

Belgium international midfielder Jonathan Legear apologized Monday for crashing his car into a gas station while over the legal alcohol limit and leaving a person injured, in a statement quoted by Belgian sports website sporza.be. Legear, who plays for Russian club Terek Grozny, was returning from a night out when he hit the building in his Porsche at 5.30 a.m. local time Sunday. The injured man was not seriously hurt but the damage to the gas station has been valued at EUR300,000, according to reports in the local media. "I offer my apologies to all those involved, directly and indirectly," Legear said in the statement released by his lawyers. "I bear the consequences of my actions, as required by law." Legear rejected reports in the local media that he was extremely intoxicated at the time of the accident. "My blood alcohol content was just above what is lawful," he said, adding that this did not alter his responsibility for the crash and that he was willing to face justice. The crash is not the first time Legear has hit a building while driving at night. He was given community service after crashing into a house in 2009, when he played for Anderlecht.
