Bus packed with people overturns and washed away by raging river

Credit to stablecondition for the article on this tragedy : Two girls from Avao died after a bus overturned in strong flood waters in Savaii on Saturday afternoon. Tuasivi hospital staff confirmed the deaths, one a 12 year old and the other a 5 year old. Others have been brought to the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital for their injuries, some serious. "We are not sure how many people have been brought here from the first trip of the ferry for treatment because their wounds were serious," said a hospital staff member. He did not want to be named. The bus was travelling from Itu o Tane district to the Salelologa wharf to catch the 2 o'clock ferry when the accident happened. The bus overturned at Lano in flash flooding while passengers from all ages were still inside. Two of the passengers are confirmed drowned and there were still fears that some may have been swept away and into the ocean. None have yet been reported missing. Tuasivi Hospital staff told Samoana on Saturday that some people were still there because of serious wounds but didn't confirm any numbers. Police are still investigating the accident.
