Driving a Pool Through the Suburbs

A video that shows a group of men speeding through a suburban street sitting in a ute tray that has been turned into a makeshift swimming pool has been condemned by Western Australian Police. The clip, filmed by friends in another vehicle on January 11, shows two shirtless men, one with a bottle in hand, sitting in the tray of the vehicle which has been lined with tarpaulin plastic. More info under the clip ..... The driver then pulls away from the curb and begins speeding down the street, taking turns sharply and swerving in what may have been an attempt to upend the men. At one point the ute swerves as it exits a bend, sending an avalanche of water onto the road as the two men tumble in the back. In the chaos the bottle goes flying onto the road and shatters. A man in the vehicle filming is heard saying: "What broke? Gavin dropped his bottle or something..." The ute then picks up speed and continues swerving on a straight section of road. The men in the vehicle filming, who have been laughing throughout, begin sounding their horn, seemingly trying to get the ute to slow down. "It's not funny, they're going to fall out. James is going to have to slow down," one of the men can be heard saying. A spokesman from the Western Australian Police said the men were breaking a number of road rules and were at risk of some fairly hefty penalties. "It's a ticket for both of them for being in the load area and one for the driver for allowing it," said Sergeant Gerry Cassidy. "The way he's swerving deliberately is dangerous, so that's reckless driving for the driver and then the water coming out the back is an insecure load." The sergeant said all drivers should be aware that it is against the law to ride in the back of a ute.
