Van Driver Less than Half Second to Being Hit by Train

Alan Borman, 60, drove onto the crossing in Bugle, Cornwall as a passenger train headed straight for him. His van came within 20ft of the train, which was traveling at 28mph . At that speed it would have taken just half a second more for impact. It was also more than enough speed to have pushed the van forward, and also possibly UNDER, the train which was unable to stop in time. If you don't think 28mph or 40kmh will do much damage, try putting your car in front of 50 ton of moving steel. Mr Borman was convicted of careless driving at Truro Crown Court.
