USA: Sci-fi fantasies come true as world's First HOVERBOARD takes off

Inventor and architect Greg Henderson cited the inspiration for his newest creation, the world's first hoverboard, as the chance to save lives and homes during earthquakes using seismic isolation, during a presentation of the hovering skateboard in San Jose, California, Thursday. Budding inventors have been trying to create a device such as this after the concept was first seen in the 1985 comic science-fiction film 'Back to the Future'. Henderson said that the Hoverboard would be "perceived very differently" if it wasn't for that film. The Hoverboard works by focusing electromagnetic energy; their engines create a magnetic field in the surface that the hoverboard uses to 'fly'. At present this requires a metal surface but the company is looking for other non-metallic surfaces that would work with the hoverboard. The current cost of a prototype of the board is around $10,000 (EUR8,000)The board hovers about an inch (2.54 centimetres) above the ground and weights around 90 pounds.
