This is rediculous! First of all, they're called garments. Second, they are'nt discussed because they are sacred and third they are worn as a private reminder of commitment to God!

Well it just goes to show, people will look for anything to disrespect others beliefs. All the stuff the narrator is "explaining" is just made up, or loosely taken from truth about the garments, in order to be disrespectful (oh i meant "funny" as he calls it). Mormon garments are like Catholics wearing crosses/rosaries or any other religions sacred clothes. Its a way for the believers to show their commitment to God. I can't say the video was funny but definitely ignorant.

I'd actually be intrigued to know the entire history behind Mormon garments. And people, seriously, NOTHING is above ridicule/humor. Anybody who is offended by this video needs to lighten up.

Wearing a comfortable garment as a reminder of a commitment to god..?
I suddenly have more respect for Opus Dei and their mortification of flesh: there's no better reminder that god loves you than a nice spiky cilice digging into your soft parts.

I used to think my underwear was magical. But then I realized the cloth wasn't the magic at all; it's what's inside. That's where the magic is. A sprinkle of glitter doesn't hurt, though.

I agree with Piro. I don't understand why, in the face of new things, the knee-jerk reaction is to baselessly mock them, rather than to be curious about them.

The video wasn't particularly funny, in my opinion, but it's not something to get your knickers in knots over.

I am a Latter-Day Saint and I wear my temple garments daily. They do serve as a good reminder of my faith. They do this because I understand them, and the meaning behind them.

I do, in fact, take them off to shower, to swim, to have sex etc. This does not make me un-devote, as the video suggests, because the video is wrong. It is perfectly permissible to remove them as need arises.

As for their offering protection against various wounds, I have not had such an experience myself but I won't discount them so quickly because I believe in miracles and God may manifest them anyway he chooses.

Symbolism is a powerful thing, we use it all the time. For each person using DYOG that has an icon to represent them, they are using symbols that to them, have a broader meaning. In the catholic faith rosary beads, candles, the priestly collar, robes, crucifixes, the sign of the cross (spectacles, testicles, wallet, watch) and many other symbols have great meaning, for the baptist the immersion in water, the taking of bread and wine to remember Christ have great meaning. From the fish on the car to the stained glass window, we use symbols to worship, each in a way that has the greatest impact and meaning to the individual.

I joined the church because to my analytical mind (which many of you have come to know) it's a religion that makes sense. Much of what modern religion has shed in the way of symbols and mythos, it retains. As a subject to study, as DenMat suggests, I think most of you would find it deeply interesting, even if you never believed a word of it. I think Joseph Campbell could have connected all the dots and come away impressed.

I don't mind that people bash my religion, I am used to it, it's happened since the beginning and I don't expect it to end. However I would hope that people of good minds would take a more thoughtful approach to understanding the things that others hold dear.

Personally, I'm not a very religious person, but I still don't find this video very funny. I'm a pastafarian (www.venganza.org) but I can still understand where TopMonkey is coming from. I don't think the underwear is particularly funny. It's ridiculous yes, but funny? The mormons get enough flak for their unhealthy anti-feminist views (polygamy, marrying little girls) and the fact that laws don't apply to them in Utah. They don't need this as well, especially considering the fact that there is so much better (and funnier) things to document on the internet.

Mormons haven't practiced polygamy since 1890.

One more time. Mormons have not practiced polygamy since 1890, when the church officially banned it.

There are people that do, and claim they are Mormon, but they are NOT a part of the church. They are excommunicated.

If you had analytical mind no religion would make sense to you.
I don't mean that in an insulting way, but religion (especially judeo-christianity) is not supposed to make sense: concept of 'faith' implies you have to put your ratio aside and open your mind to a fairytale that bible is.

Now that we got *that* clear I would just like to emphasize that if you are 13 like your profile says, and you take your magic lingerie off 'to have sex' you should worry about your commitment to the church instead of writing endless comments about it.

Comment number 21 (omg dude): possibly the worst comment on any video in the history of video commenting. A year old resurrection, and the only thing offered to us is a copy-pasta from an equally old comment.

Nika: In an interesting twist, I am a member of the LDS church, but agree with your comment. I was forced to join by my grandparents when I was 14, but have not been an active member for 5(?) years.

And yet, it bothers me when people say things such as "anti-feminist views (polygamy, marrying little girls) and the fact that laws don't apply to them in Utah." I love the level of ignorance. It's astounding.
