The part about the bumper stickers, marriage, and his kid and the last baby on board joke, were my favorites. He's very funny.

I loved the one about the birth of his son- it's a reference to a great irony that immigrants who obtained U.S. citizenship know more about history (and lots of other things) than an average American does.

I agree nika. That's exactly the think I was referring to when I listed "his kid" as one of my favorite parts. America has an absolutely rich and fascinating history that no one here seems to know.

I personally find Europe's, Asia's and Northern Africa's historys to be much richer and more fascinating than America's...

To be sure they are wonderful and well studied, but your comment just goes to underscore my point that America's history is under-appreciated. From Viking landings to massive native american dwellings there's plenty to keep one's attention and that's before we even get to the revolution and the wild wild west.

What fascinates me about American history is something that's mostly not in the textbooks: deals made under the table, monetary manipulations, real reasons behind the wars, etc.

No doubt European history is richer, more voluminous and somehow more passionate, but American history (especially last 100 years) is entwined with the old continent anyways.

I suppose "more voluminous" depends on where one starts. For me I tend to think of American history and United States of America history as being all part of one history.

I would agree with your comment, "somehow more passionate". Despite what may be the common perspective Americans are actually a restrained people.

Monetary manipulations are the dirty side of capitalism. Everything has its opposite as that system allows for a great deal of liberty along with the oppression. It has allowed many of the oppressed to alter their circumstances without bloodshed.

As for "real reasons" behind war that all depends on what you mean. There is the Internet-based conspiracy theories, and there are the geo-political theories.

Let me finish that sentence wyse "Benjamin Franklin was a great man that loved: life, women, food, conversation, science, thought, liberty, France, America, talking..." Maybe I can't finish it...he liked and did so much.

Ha! Those long takes he did between some of the jokes made me laugh. I wonder if he was doing that out of anxiety or if he's trying to emulate Jack Benny.

That might be a little presumptuous TopMonkey. Like I'd say I would be tempted to a fight with Bruce Lee just because I practice some kung fu as a hobby.
