Caught on Tape: Trooper dash cam records near head-on crash

Story Published: Oct 28, 2010 Courtesy Oregon State Police BURNS, Ore., - The Oregon State Police has released a startling 27-second video highlighting a head-on crash involving one of its troopers. The video, which was taken last year in Eastern Oregon near Burns, shows OSP Trooper Josh Nagle driving to an injury crash on Highway 20 during icy conditions. The video shows the trooper passing a semi and then soon after a gray pickup loses control and slams into the trooperapos;s vehicle. Nagle, who had been with OSP for one year, steered to the right shoulder in an attempt to avoid the pickup but was struck nearly head-on. After the initial impact, a dump truck following Nagleapos;s patrol car struck the rear of the involved pickup. Emergency workers spent about 30 minutes using ‘Jaws of Lifeapos; to extricate Nagle before he and the other driver were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup was cited and convicted for failure to maintain a lane of travel. quot;We are thankful this crash wasnapos;t a fatal reminder and that both drivers recovered from their injuries,quot; said Chris Brown, Oregon State Police superintendent.quot; quot;We hope this video reminds everyone to use your safety restraints and to be aware at all times, especially when winter and wet weather conditions can make driving challenging for anyone.quot;
