Visitors got to witness the technique of plastination, which has been used to retain the anatomy of human bodies that have been maintained using a mixture of dehydration and vacuuming, as well as being able to view a number of human organs, such as the brain and heart. Some European counties and US states, such as parts of France and California, have previously banned the Body Worlds exhibition, deeming it unworthy to be granted a license because it was thought a "violation" of the dead person. According to the Institute for Plastination in Heidelberg, Germany, more than 9,000 individuals have pledged to donate their bodies to the exhibition.
